OK, so when do they roll over?

I took the USS Patch, a military troop carrier re-tasked into a passenger liner, across the Atlantic, twice, three years apart as a child. Probably the two most memorable events of my entire kidhood. They were adventures of the highest magnitude. Especially, since they both embraced major ocean events. The first was termed by the crew, "the worst seas we've ever seen" and the second trip was termed, "worse than 'that' crossing 3 years ago".

How bad was it? The seas were so huge only 20 people of 300 came to meals, half the pets being transported died. Both trips took 3 extra days.
