I think it's a bit unfair to blame all this on mother nature.
How about "obvious inevitable consequences of foolish humans building houses on sea-side sand dunes, having listened to the blithe assurance of the real estate developer who paid kickbacks to the council". And that's before we even mention climate change. Well, I suppose that is a bit long.
