Rly? I just don't get this. It's not a brand new human. It's our third new car ever, may well be our last (first two were when we emigrated 11 years ago) beest is enjoying driving it because he chose well, but it's not the newness so much as being a car that meets his needs, I think.....

you don't get new dishwashers and tumble dryers that often either -they may cost less, but they often make much more difference in everyday life.

I think dishwashers are the new purchase We enjoy the most. we have bought three in our 20+ years together.



Buxton is in the garage tonight. Red Rascal is not. Buxton is in Red Rascal's half of the garage. In the old days, when there was temporarily crap in the garage, it was RR who got to stay. The front part of RR's side was the easiest to bulldoze. Here's hoping RR is not related to Christine.

You wouldn't see the cars you see on the road if, for a lot of us, cars were just utilitarian. In fact, I daresay most cars would look the same, except that some people LOVE cars.

I do. I would love to have a little fleet, driving whichever one fit the mood or the environment that day. A Jeep CJ7, my bug, a Lamborghini, some cool classic...like a Bel Air, and some kind of big stomper SUV. That might do it for now.

I'm amazed at the lack of color selection for new cars. 90% of cars today are the basically the same color as the road they drive on. What happened to color? Beest's new car is one of the most colorful you'll see. This isn't the 1800's, the world isn't in black and white today. It's in color. Plus, it's easier to find your car in a parking lot if it's an actual color. Is grey/silver/tan popular just because it hides dirt?

Its also easier to see other cars when they have some contrast relative to the road and whatnot. YMMV

Yeah, this was a third criteria after manual and hatchback, a bright color, limited choice even further.

The color choices for all the vehicles I looked at include at least 5 shades of white, black grey or silver (also grey), and maybe two colors, which might be dark red instead of bright red. I guess that's what people must buy

likewise, you can actually make economical forcasts based on the common colors of ties.

there's no reason that sociological pressures on the colors we are drawn to would apply strictly to what we wear - a car is also something your presenting to the world.

ofcourse its get circular after that - when most people buy a product in certain set of colors, dealers stock on those colors, factories produce more products in those colors, and then its harder to find those products in other colors.

My impression was that the dealers got what the manufacturers gave them, they weren't free to order just what they wanted.

I guess the companies have marketing departments and color forecasters who try and guess the trends.
