Assuming you're already "in love", there's really only two good tests.

Are you compatible enough that you will still enjoy having conversations with this person when you're older and the sexual heat has dissipated?

Take a vacation together. It's easy to put on your happy face when you're on a date. Much harder to do when you're together 24/7. If you are still enjoying each others company after a week, you'll probably do ok.
