If you get a Canon Powershot, you can download
CHDK (Canon Hack Development Kit) and add about $30 worth of features that were locked out or never thought of by the manufacturer. It does not work for all models.
You can set it to take multiple shots with different exposure settings if you want to cover your bases or experiment with
High Dynamic Range photos.
