Smooth - I know it's not the same as personal advice, but check TripAdvisor.com.
It's bang up to date and really helped me when I went to Amsterdam. It also got me excellent B&B choices in Cardiff and Glasgow - Mum is witness to the former and Dana & Limey to the latter. It covers places to stay, places of interest, clubs, food etc - anything anyone has bothered to rate.
