I don't mind you experimenting with drugs, but your experiments were poorly designed.

I generally run around with a bunch of little aches and pains (mostly in my neck and shoulders)...usually they are just on the edge of my consciousness. Sometimes, though, they can get me really tense and cranky, so I might then take half a 5mg hydrocodone and 20 minutes later I'm all relaxed and cheery. I call them my happy pills. If I had real pain, however, like a 7 or higher, they wouldn't work. I would need a 10mg oxy for that. Thankfully its been a long, long time since I've had real pain.

When I was younger, I might have mixed pills with booze, but nowadays I'm just not interested in that kind of high. A glass or two of wine is all I need.

VA gave me some hydrocodeone w/tynol for my back last week. I took 1 after a few beers. Wierd dreams all night. No more for me. Plus I'm not sure my liver can take it.

I've mixed beer with valium, and CVS-brand cold tablets with wine...but that was ages ago. I'd be too afraid of some internal organ seizing up to do it now.

I've used pain killers and alcohol in an effort to self medicate in the past. I generally avoid it these days, although once in a while I do it still. It's usually got to be a really bad day though.

Hmmm...I'm wondering what that says about me.

Don't do it. Find other, less dangerous and harmful ways to manage pain.

Well, first of all, I actually don't do that sort of thing when I'm in physical pain - ironically because I worry that it might be harmful, and secondly I don't do to the same extent now. It was mostly during the period after my Mum died. That was 6 yrs ago now. Sometimes now I'll just take something to help me sleep, and sometimes that happens to be after I've had a few drinks. I don't set out to obliviate (is that a word?) myself anymore, so I guess that's good.

Yes, it's a spell. You must have learned it at Hogwarts.

There are times when pain meds don't touch my pain. Add alcohol and they seem to be much more effective. And it does make me feel all wonderful inside.

Couldn't sleep last night and thought about taking something, but what I've found is that if I do, it knocks me out for the whole of the next day and I feel crap and achieve nothing. At least this way, even if I got up late, I'm on the brink of starting to feel human and may be able to do something useful today.
