When you say the dog is in quarantine, I assume this is simply for your benefit, to check it doesn't have rabies?
Or are dogs that attack human not automatically euthanised where you are?

Morethan - I've read a LOT about cat bites getting infected (not on here, I mean in the wider world) and it has never happened to me. My cat scratches swell up and itch immediately, but go down within two hours. I'd be more careful if they lasted. But just in this recent emergency with Diz (where I had to take him to the vet on Bank Holiday Monday) I got four or five deep punctures and two or three that at least broke the skin. They're still a little tender from the bruising, but I'm alive and well.

This is not to dispute that cats have horrid bacteria in their mouths - and it's from British magazines too - I'm just wondering if you have any personal experience?

As a complete aside, I've also noted in American films/ novels that people need anti-biotics because of scratches and cuts. And I have never in my whole life encountered this. Anyone?
