Katie Couric interviewed the security guard who came to the rescue of the members of the school board in Panama City, FL.

Really amazing story. The guy was doing what he was trained to do, what he had to do...yet he expressed remorse about the family of the gunman. He got choked up talking about it: it certainly affected him.

I think I could do it if I had to. In fact, I probably would have been like the woman who came back in and tried to knock the gunman over with her purse (the man was not interested in hurting any women, oddly.)

But I would be changed. I'm really a pacifist, but I have been in situations where backed into a corner, and I become worse than fearless...some sort of instinct takes over. Yet later, I feel remorse, I feel sad. Perhaps it stems from wondering why we are ever put in those situations, why the world is the way it is. But it is.

This really is an amazing story, more amazing that no one was hit, and I thought about this thread when I watched the interview.

Everybody: never never never never "shoot to wound." There's a shorter way to say that: miss. Fobble already knew the answer. It was in her first sentence, and in her last one. I wouldn't have put that bit in at all, having decided long ago how I would have to be to handle such a crisis.

It's a legal lethal-self-defense situation where the perpetrator must stop what he is doing, or innocents bleed and die. Perp's survival becomes secondary in these situations. It's also rather likely if it's a pistol you're using.

It's tough enough getting a center or above-center (pulmonary triangle) hit when you're trying to shoot there. Trying to shoot someplace else means you've got a loose slug sailing down the street, and likely no bad guys down there for it to fetch up in. That's called being irresponsible with deadly force.

So avoid thinking that way, and you'll be a better citizen.

Sounds like monster's hoping her perps are wearing ballistic helmets and bullet proof vests so she can justify taking them down with pelvic shots.
