I seem to recall, when Omni Magazine was new and cool, before the UFO nuts took over, they ran pictures of someone who built the "impossible box" from Escher's Belvedere.
Of course they cheated it. The construction was not possible, but the way it was photographed made it look like it was. (Oh, and while I was looking for this particular image, I came across another fondly remembered site ... Escher in Lego.)
