Quoted by Wolf: "Spiritualists and Shamans do the same job psychiatrists and psychologists do, using the same tools, and obtaining about the same results. "
Time to trot out another one of my theories: the psychologist fulfills the same function as the Catholic confessional. |

The Catholic Church can't bill your insurance. Instead they make you pay up in weekly increments that probably add up to more than a typical co-pay. A psychologist works to try to make you feel better about yourself, regardless of your past actions. The Catholic Church aims for the opposite. A psychologist may give you "homework" to do before your next session, but most of it will not require that you spend time on your knees repeating some words as though you were obsessive-compulsive. The Catholic Church frequently offers family sessions, where an ethical psychological provider will refer you to another provider.

It is absurd to divide people into good and bad. People are either charming or tedious.

I do my thing and you do yours. I am not in this world to live up to your expectations, and you are not in this world to live up to mine. You are you and I am I, and if by chance we find each other, I'll have you on your back with your pants around your ankles so fast it will make your head spin.

When you go to a restaurant on the weekends and it’s busy so they start a waiting list, they say, “DuFresnes, party of two, table ready for DuFresnes, party of two.” And if no one answers they’ll say the name again: “DuFresnes, party of two.” But then if no one answers, they’ll move on to the next name. “Bush, party of three.” Yeah, but what happened to the DuFresnes!? No one seems to care! Who can eat at a time like this!? People are missing. You people are selfish. The DuFresnes are in someone’s trunk right now, with duct tape over their mouths. And they’re hungry. That’s a double whammy. We need help. “Bush, search party of three.” You can eat once you find the DuFresnes.
