If there were no UI or Welfare, those workers who lost their jobs would have to either get another job, likely outside my profession, or they would starve to death.

Clinton passed welfare reform in 1996. There was great gnashing of teeth and prediction of horrible results, etc.

In the following years, the unemployment rate fell, the crime rate fell, and the poor became obese.
