I vow to not kill any hobos this year. Well, that's my plan anyway.

I don't make resolutions. If I want to change something, I just do it. It's not one day a year...then you're just mad at yourself for not doing what you said you'd do (clean my closet, lose 10 pounds...)

Every year, for me, it's the same thing, and I always keep to it because it's easy to do: I remember to acknowledge someone who has gone above and beyond typical duties in service to others. For example: waiter was great. Waiter's boss will get a comment card on waiter's behalf. Simple, easy, and it means a lot to waiter. I know how good it makes me feel when I get such compliments from students.

Bah, there was a cashier at the supermarket who was just fabulous. Friendly, fast, efficient, packed bags logically, just great. So I sent her boss an email telling him how good she was... she got promoted.

I, too, have a few private ones. But for public consumption, this is the year of change for me.

1) stop smoking!
2) maintain weight
3) get a new wardrobe by end of year
4) get moved to a better house
5) get rid of wife's clutter!

Same as ever.
Lose weight, stop drinking, get out more.
To be living in a place of my own before summer.
To have a job - even if it's part time - by the end of the year.
To go see my friend in Yorkshire. Or Limey! Or both.

Short term goals - volunteer at the Queens Park Centre and get pottery sessions in return. I have to make a better money-box than the one I did when I was getting it free as part of occupational therapy. By mistake I made a cat demon instead of a money box. Diz is terrified of it at any rate, so I figure that's the most logical conclusion. If he sees it he will not come into the room. Anyway it's not fit for purpose - I wanted to use it to save £1 coins, but after it was glazed the slot is too small! It's not worth it for smaller denominations as it's not a large item and will have to be smashed open.

Start a new photo album (a physical one).
I've got 40 free prints via a website I've just signed up to. I like to have them together in a book. After all, I already have 4!

Oh and go along to a meeting of the singing group I have a flyer for. But that's a scary-big step.

1: eat healthier and keep to an exercise routine
2: get out more and have some fun
3: finish my associates, start planning for the next step
4: talk to my grandma and uncle in Florida more (starting today by calling and wishing them a happy new year)
5: find time to volunteer at the SPCA

End goal of all these steps: gain self-confidence!

Thank you for the nice comment Shaw!
I think its very good that you make sure to compliment those who go above and beyond. I try similarly to be polite and patient. If I'm in a line, I don't let the wait get to me and say my please and thank yous. I also use "ma'am" and "sir" no matter the age of the person I'm talkin to, I realize some find it a title for "old" people, but its really just a term of respect. If a person expresses that they don't like it, I do my best to stop, but its really ingrained.

I have to say I really like Cloud's resolution to dance everyday. As some might remember, I do not dance. Maybe I should add to my list, "Learning to overcome my phobia of public humiliation and dance in public."
