That's another one of mine! When I hear it on TV or in a movie or on the news, I cringe.

Not one that bothers me. It's simply making two verbal phrases, two verbal concepts packed into one sentence: the trying, and the other one. Though try to is tighter.

Honest colloquialisms don't bother me as would outright barbarisms.
