Does anyone have change for a ten, for the vending machine?

http://www.cellar.org/showthread.php...446#post585446

As always, couldn't resist. I really do need change for the vending machine, too.

I disagree with the Hendrix choice.

no one. i mean NO ONE remakes zeppelin songs any better than the original. In this, I believe they are unique.

some are passable....as this version of battle of evermore.....and the 4 non blondes doing Misty Mountain on encomium.

I've heard a few good imitations....but never an adaption that surpasses the original.

I challenge you all to change my mind about this.

ha ha nice angle ... from Illegal Art:
Quote:
Willie Dixon v. Led Zeppelin

When Shirley Dixon first heard Led Zeppelin's "Whole Lotta Love," she recognized it as a song by her father, famed blues musician Willie Dixon. Although Dixon's song "You Need Love" was popularized by Muddy Waters' cover in 1962, Dixon had never received money from either Waters or Zeppelin. In 1985, he filed suit against Zeppelin, charging copyright infringement. The case was eventually settled out of court in Dixon's favor for a large, undisclosed sum. With a newfound understanding of the music industry, Dixon founded the Blues Heaven Foundation, an organization devoted to helping blues artists recover royalties.
lumberjim huffed and puffed so hard, I almost forgot that Led Zeppelin are the number one rip-off artists of all time.

To be fair, the entire history of people making music, throughout all of history, has consisted of people travelling into a new place, hearing a new song, and putting their own spin on it as they travel elsewhere and play it for different people; thus songs evolve and take on different cultural characteristics, etc.

The idea of "ownership" of a piece of music did not come about until recording technology was introduced, and a piece of music (a recording) could be treated like a piece of property.

In this context, what Led Zeppelin did--taking old blues songs and amplifying them, adding a backbeat etc. is a very natural thing in terms of what humans have always done.

However, to say that they performed "the original" of any given song is probably less accurate than with any other modern band I can think of.
