Ok wait a minute. You said the aliens were diplomatic and if they had been watching us for anytime at all they would already know we are prone to be hostile,warring and conquering countries for some time.

Of course we should suspect a nicey nicey introduction with some caution. ...after all. Lately we've been shooting and asking questions later. If they were smart they would already know we have itchy trigger fingers.
