We did have a thread about 'golden orb spiders' which grow large enough to like birds as prey, and my part in the thread started with me saying that I have some of those in my garden. Most people do, and that they're quite common, although in the smaller form. They mostly only grow really large in tropical areas.
SG, we have plenty of cute cuddly marsupials for those of you not keen on the scarier wildlife.  This is the thread
