We're allowed to have hens (I think up to a dozen) but no roosters in residential areas here.
I'd have them for the eggs, cept my dog likes killing and sometimes eating chooks, so it's not worth it. and yes, I've done everything including beating the dog with the dead chook which was the last straw for me. Maybe when she's gone I'll try again.
