Besides, the difference between a republic and a "pure" democracy is - or should be - known to school children. Anarchists are libertarians, and can fall on either side of the spectrum. Most of the people I know are liberals, and quite a few of them consider themselves anarchist/socialists. And no, those two concepts do not clash. They fit together quite nicely.
