It was really just the baited comments of two of the boarding crew members that made the whole thing go to shit, and IME it would have happened anywhere... negotiating an expedition without incident takes diplomacy.

Sounds very much like a ST TOS to me, we come in peace, shoot to kill.

I was going to be Scotty esque, but apparently there isn't a Spock, so if I ever get chance to work up a character I'll do that.
