Iran Detains Spies at Nuclear Facility

From Fox News:

Authorities in Iran nabbed two birds believed to be “spy pigeons” near the country’s contentious nuclear facility, the Agence France-Presse reported Monday.

Both pigeons were caught near the city of Natanz, which is home to Iran’s uranium enrichment plant, AFP reported. Both had metal rings and invisible strings attached to them.

A source declined to mention what will happen to the pigeons now that they’ve been caught.

The results of a six-year probe released last month did not rule out the possibility that Iran may be running clandestine nuclear programs, a chief U.N. nuclear inspector said told the Associated Press.

lol - Initially I thought pigeon was a type of plane or something then as I continued to read the article... nope just a couple birds. hmm Does this qualify as "low-tech" espionage?

Somebody's pet homing pigeons got confused by all the clickitys* given off by that facility?

*clickitys = slang for radiation, from the noise of a Geiger counter.

How dare you question a report from Faux News? If they there were invisible strings, how can you prove differently? I love scare reports like this one. It lowers my respect for the news in general. Just how stupid do they think we all are?

They were hungry was all. And then had to cover it up when the owner of the pigeons tracked them down.

"...and Captain Blackadder definitely did not shoot this delicious plump-breasted pigeon"

The story source is AFP, the French equivalent of the AP and frankly often less reliable than Fox; but if you don't want to cross your ideological wall to read it, because you might catch conservative cooties or something, here it is on upi.com.

I shouldn't have to worry about catching either conservative or liberal cooties when reading the news.

Well you can get em if you don't wash your hands on a regular basis and dip your body in Sodium Hypochlorite.

It was squirrels last year. They arrested 14 of them.

"The squirrels were carrying spy gear of foreign agencies, and were stopped before they could act, thanks to the alertness of our intelligence services," Iran's state-sponsored news agency reported at the time.

Nuts though it sounds, the possibility of fitting tiny spy cameras to migratory birds cannot be ruled out. The use of animals in warfare has a long history. As recently as WWII, the Russians used dogs to destroy tanks by using Pavlovian techniques to train them to carry explosives underneath the German tanks.

However, pigeon racers band their birds and often stamp phone numbers on the birds' wing feathers, and I can well imagine them leaving some fishing line tied to the birds' legs to make them easier to catch if they stray. This was done in falconry.

Occam's Razor, hmmmmm.....
Politically motivated xenophobic paranoia propaganda? They wouldn't, surely.
