Textbooks have almost always been a product of revisionism.

Remember the US history books in Jr Hi? The noble and patriotic white men saved us from the savage and evil native americans. Why, if we hadn't slaughtered them by the hundreds think what they would have done to our lifestyle, our country, our entire raison d'etre!

Which is why you shouldn't expect to have mastered history until you've studied it in more than just your HS textbooks.

History everywhere and everywhen has its array of warts, blemishes, and scars. Only mythology is smooth and altogether noble.

I get the distinct feeling that the general population of blacks and apologists in the South have a organized plan to erase that history. JMHO from what I have seen in my short time in the South.
