Well there's the whole nature vs nurture debate. Christian fundementalists will tell you being gay is so exciting that you need to fight against it constantly and those that don't are sinners. And there's a suggestion that it's something to do with hormones in the womb.

But I guess the truth is - no-one really knows yet.
