I have never heard of horseradish in a Bloody Mary!
I'll have to ask Grandad if it's an American thing. He was a cocktail waiter during and after the war, and towards the end of the war he mostly served Americans because they were the ones with the money for cocktails!

I know it sounds strange, but just a tiny bit of it is incredibly good. I had never heard of using Clamato until a few years ago. Then I tried it and found out it's fantastic. It originally started at the Bull & Finch Pub in Boston (aka The real "Cheers" bar). They won contests year after year for making the best Bloody Mary then someone finally revealed that they added clam juice.

If I'm ever doing a morning party or something, I mix up a couple of gallons of Bloody Mary mix from scratch. Then all I've got to do is add Vodka.
