I've been using a Garmin E-Trex Legend for a few years now. Works fine for me. I second the USA Photomaps vote from Zip, as well. Great free program, although you'll chew up a shitload of HD space and time downloading the aerial photos and topos, but it is a blast to use.

Strangely, I can't seem to interface my Garmin with it anymore since I got a computer with no serial port, and had to add a USB/serial converter.

Hmm, the eTrex line was one I was looking at.. but my laptop doesn't have a serial port.. so what you mentioned in that regard Elspode is a little worrying.
Thanks UT I will let you know here soon.
