Drax...I *am* a witch. For over ten years and going strong. My wife and I ran a Wiccan coven for that length of time, took a hiatus, and are now reforming it with family and extended family for the purpose of magickally and mundanely bringing greater unity, peace and healing to our respective worlds.
Mostly, I was joshing with Xi, because it seemed obvious that, like most people, there was a serious lack of knowledge about what witchcraft and witches are all about in today's world. In the same way that there is no one specific Christian ethos, witches, or those who call themselves such, have a wide range of beliefs, practices and ethical guidelines by which they function. However, if you walk around and call yourself a witch in most of society, people *will* think you're weird. However, apart from some other nonstandard lifestyle choices in our household, we're as normal and regular as anyone else. We have jobs, raise children, go to our version of church, pay taxes, counsel our friends and community members, and dance naked around fires while playing drums.
Okay, maybe the last part is something that most people don't do...but they want to.
So, to summarze...I don't think witches are weird. I think *people* are weird, and witches are people, just like everyone else. Think about it...how is it weirder for us to worship Universal energy in the form of trees and rocks and air and water and fire and such than it is for someone to worship an invisible, insecure, vindictive Omnipotent power named Jehovah?
