As well as the burnt lap and toasted sperm issues, typing on the machine on your lap is bad for your wrists.
Which is why, as TheOtherGuy notes, liability-shy manufacturers are calling them notebooks. However, "laptop" contrasts so neatly with "desktop". And its catchier. Also, using the machine on your lap, when you're looking at porn, can make the situation rather unstable... PS "Laptop? Thats a funny name for it. I'd call that a Chuzzwuzzah."
