Coming soon to a Sharper Image near you...

From here, Samsung in S. Korea is developing a robotic stationary sentry armed with a 5.5mm machine gun. Check out the promotional video.

Should I have cross-linked this with the 'Those that knock on you door' thread?

There is also development of a robotic 'mule'

If it weren't for the fact you could see the joints, I'd say this was a fake with two guys hiding in the the machine.

From here

Quote:
The latest frontier in the country’s quest for robotic supremacy? Its border with Kim Jong Il’s Hermit Kingdom. The state-run Agency for Defense Development is spending $35 million to develop three types of robots—one each for mine detection and removal, surveillance, and combat—which it hopes to begin deploying to the 155-mile-long demilitarized zone later this year. One of the robots is an eight-legged machine called gyeonma, or “dog-horse,” which combines the role of a guard dog and load-bearing mule. It is armed with infrared sensors, pattern-recognition cameras, and an automatic rifle. These cybercreatures, the government says, will patrol the mountainous borderlands.
So I'm missing a picture of the 8-legged version.

Strange stuff.

Looks like the sound was pretty much all from the generator. The part where it was plugged in wasn't loud at all.

Very impressive. Especially walking on loose rocks.

I see they modeled it after the Olsen twins.
