Baseball!

When the pitcher throws the ball towards the batter, does he want the batter to hit it? No! So why does he throw the ball in the first place?

When a basketball player throws the ball, does he want it to go into the basket? Yes.
When a football player throws the ball, does he want his teammate to catch it? Yes.
When a golfer hits the ball with a club, does he want it to go into the little hole? Yes.

But in baseball, the pitcher throws the ball towards the batter even though he doesn't want the batter to be able to hit it!
