I suspect you can only post a poll when you start a new thread -perhaps you looked at the options available in "reply" rather then "new thread" mode?

And thanks for helping instead of being a..... TheMercenary, check off Yes, fill in the number of options, then submit. It will come back and ask you questions about the poll. Answer them and you're good to go.
