The scariest thing to me is how much of this stuff I have actually seen. About 25 years ago I was in the break room at work & one of the guys in my team had been seen going to the storeroom an hour or so earlier, so I went to check on him. He was on the floor with his pocketknife stuck in his neck to the hilt. He survived that, but died of pancreatic cancer within a year (I think that was why he tried to kill himself).
On the deep water thing, I have actually been able to go for a swim near the deepest part of the Pacific, and I will grant that it is a strange feeling to know that there is over five miles of water between you and the bottom, and who knows what unknown creatures lurk below.
One of the ships on which I served had been in a collision with a tanker several years earlier, and most of the Chief Petty Officers on board were trapped in their quarters and burned to death. During my years at sea, that was my worst fear, but it was not serious enough to make me want to quit going to sea.

I'm really afraid of fire hazards, such as curtains catching on a candle flame, or a lamp bulb burning furniture. Years ago, my apartment at the time caught on fire, and I was shocked at how quickly it spread...sure don't want to see that again.

People keep reminding me of the things I fear and honestly, I do get the shudders all over.

I hate clowns. I don't like them in real life (ie people in clown make-up getting out of tiny cars and falling over) but I absolutely loathe images of them.

I was given a china clown statue as a joke one Christmas. It was seriously creepy and I worried about it at night and it stopped me sleeping - I didn't really believe it would come alive, but it set too many thoughts racing through my mind to be able to relax. And I was scared if I smashed it, I'd find it back in the house again, unmarked. At which point my mind would snap (my other great fear).

A friend stepped in and took it off my hands. The act of talking to a rational adult made me behave like a rational adult too. I'm still glad it's gone though.

I'm afraid of dying "before my time." Of course, in my belief sphere, when God punches my time card, it's time to go. But I think I can live a long and healthy life if I could just lose some weight and eat better. I'm trying, but it is so hard.

I used to be afraid of public speaking, but I've structured my life so that it's not a fear I have to deal with. Not a fear any more.
