Though if it gets shot at anyone else they get really really ticked -- something about the way all those pentagonal purple spots appear. And don't get 'em started on the itching and burning. The Heartbreak of Psoriasis ain't got nuthin' on this.
I've a notion that many though not all the guns in
Girl Genius that aren't "lightning guns! Bwahahahahah!!" might possibly use a liquid propellant, metered in behind a solid projectile which is fed into the chamber by some feed mechanism that would be fairly familiar to us. They are repeaters, and the possible liquid charged variety is the one with the little green gas gauge where the operator can conveniently see it. The arms themselves don't seem to smoke any more than smokeless-powder ones do. You don't see cases flying, in general. Ignition of the charge is still a headscratcher, but I'm leaning towards electrical. Overall, not too unlike a naval rifle or a large artillery piece, writ small.
Not all the GG guns have this feature; some seem to be cartridge arms -- DuPree's pistol, for one. With a cartridge, you have a convenient venue for a percussion primer.
