Good afternoon from beautiful downtown New Orleans!

...and yes, it is still a beautiful city. The wounds are healing, but some scars still remain and I've been told the parades "should be interesting" this year.

More pictures and stories to follow as I get settled in. For now, I'm off to get me some gumbo...

The photo sorting continues now that I'm back. Here's a sample of the humor that was laid on fairly thick at the "Blue Roof Blues" parade today along St. Charles in The Garden District.

Cafe Du Monde was open and packed! They're not back to full 24 hour operation, yet, but every single table inside and out was full of people enjoying fresh, hot beignets and coffee.

Meanwhile, The French Quarter was also in good condition. Bourbon Street was full of stumblers and college students while most of the side streets looked like the one below -- traffic with some scattered shoppers. A broken lamp here, a missing shutter there, but everything was very enjoyable.

No, but I did get plenty of beads by rubbing and squeezing them. Doing any sort of strange dancing, motions, or screaming will get them. Pelvic thrusting also did the trick.

Being able to drink on the street during a parade is so much fun.

At Mardi Gras two years ago I ran in front of a float with a nutcracker theme, grabbed my crotch, and screamed "Hey, I've got some nuts for ya down here!" They whipped every heavy item they had at me, possibly in anger, resulting in some serious loot.
