I need some ideas

here's the deal, my g/f's birthday is coming up next month and she keeps asking me what we're going to do for it. she's out of town until the middle of next month as well so it's going to be a celebration of her coming home too. Also the roommate's birthday is the day before hers so we're going to combine parties/partying. The problem is that everytime she asks, I lock up and can't think of squat. I would say fly to San Antonio and have dinner on the river walk then go party afterwards, get a hotel and fly back the next day but that wouldn't be too much fun for the roomy as a third wheel. I dunno. Maybe we should get a limo, go to her favorite restaurant downtown and bar hop down there. I think she'd like that as well. Now, her gift? shit, don't even get me started on the brain lockups there. I just have to go shop around for that, I just hate shopping. period.

Divide and conquer.

Make the girlfriend's birthday THE party and give the roomy a raincheck. Where are your priorities anyway?! I think your outline of a private plane ride, riverwalk, dinner, hotel extravaganza sounds beautiful. And she would be your only focus. To me, that's nice. Your mileage may vary, her mileage may vary.

Why are you celebrating roomy's birthday, again? Are they inseperable pals? Is it really a two in one deal? Whatever.

Gift? You have to ask her, and then run the answer(s) through some girl talk translator. My best advice on this score, besides the usual nice things sparkly/slinky, is to not take my suggestions. I know, some help, eh? Sorry.

Roomy will be a third wheel (or feel like he is, same difference) no matter what you do. I second BigV, do something appropriate (dinner, strip club, whatever) with him on his birthday and then have a private celebration with your gf.

I agree - the roomy is out. I think you did a great job coming up with the dinner and river walk - since we all agree the roomy is out - do that! And as for a gift, I think that is gift enough!

the roomy is out unless "she" is a smoking hot little brunette that your g/f also enjoys. then it is happy birthday for everyone.

Talking

Why are brunettes so proud of their hair?

It matches their moustache. Sorry, just couldn't resist a good brunette joke! :p

you could of course, think of all the reasons you are in love with her and start there. perhaps thinking about what makes her exceptional as a person may help you think of a suitable gift. too heavy? ah, forked rejection section.

Or a redhead or a very ingenuous brunette.

Yeah, what's with the roomie being a part of this? Are you hoping for a three-some? What? Has you GF informed you its a package deal? Love me, love my roomie?

Your idea of a flight, riverwalk, etc., sounds brilliant. Give the roommate a puppy or kitten to keep her company and book the restaurant and hotel suite for TWO in San Antonio.

If your GF wears jewelry, a pretty bracelet or a pair of earring might be appreciated. There's no all around girlie gift though, anymore than there's an all around guy gift. Like, maybe you'd want a new shotgun and a coonhound?

perhaps take it to another form...other than "poetry"...how weighty of you...buy her a tattoo? a needle in a haystack guess seeing as I don't know the girl...I figured I'd at least try to give you some suggestion since you created a thread for that specific purpose...but poetry is nice...

No tattoos. Curses the relationship right then and there, before the needle hits the skin.

And it doesn't matter if there are names involved. Names will make the break up happen sooner, though.
