On reading the Snope's opinion on this I was amused by this

keeping spent condoms from making their way through waste disposal systems and into bodies of water is an issue that comes up from time to time.

When I was at college the most colourful lecturer once stated that one description of engineering was the ability to separate rubber from sewage. We dismissed this as playful BS. I turns out he was right after all. <o:p></o:p>
