UFOs, orbiting oddities, and other weirdness

I'm curious to know if any Cellarites have looked to the heavens and seen anything unusual, before. Stars and planets, high flying planes, satellites at night...all have been mistaken, before, for something mysterious. But have you even gazed skywards and seen something that you couldn't explain?

(Not necessarily implying aliens, here.)

i saw the "Lights over Phoenix" a few years ago. there were six (if memory serves) lights equally spaced that hovered in a stationary position for quite some time and then simply disappeared. i've heard no satisfactory explanation for them. i heard weather balloons, helicopters, etc... but none of the stated possibilities really fit what i saw.

but i didn't wake up with an 80 foot satellite dish sticking out of my rump so i wasn't overly concerned.

I've seen a lot of weird shit while observing the sky. I look up at the sky a lot. To me, an aircraft is something to always look at, kind of like a kid and a passing fire engine. I can't ignore them. In each instance of a weird sight, I was able to stare at the object long enough to figure out that it was an aircraft with the sun reflecting off it, or an Iridium satellite flare, or a planet, or the northern lights. One time I saw a couple hundred individual balloons in a cluster several thousand feet up. That was cool. Grabbed my binoculars for that one because I couldn't tell what they were.

When jets come in toward the airport during the day, and the sun is reflecting off their wings, you can see them when they are many miles out. They are all stacked up like a traffic jam, and seem to be right next to each other, even though they are spaced 2+ minutes apart. They also seem to be standing still, just hovering in the air if you are directly in front of them and they are flying toward you. It isn't until they turn and the sun doesn't reflect off them that they "dissapear." It can be a very striking effect.

So I haven't seen anything unexplained, but I have seen some weird stuff.

Fire Balloons are some of the strangest things, ever, to see float by. They're really good for tricking people into thinking they've seen something from another world. Because I think it would be a bad idea to release something that has the ability to burn down acres of forest, I once accomplished a similar effect by dropping blinky, color changing LEDs into white balloons, clustering them, and releasing them. They moved too high and too fast in the wind, but for the short time they were visible it was actually really pretty.

I once saw the International Space Station traverse the sky during a sunset. Brilliant, bright, and fast!

I saw video of the phoenix lights, Lookout. Truly birzarre stuff. Of course, they have something to do with a file box found by construction workers. Uh-huh.

One day I thought I saw the Starship Enterprise flying low overheard ... turned out to be an AWACS heading in for a landing at Willow Grove Naval Air Station.
