Lately, I'm not sure why any of it matters. Evolution is a given -- you can see it at some level all around you every day. Whether it's as extensive as to turn a single-celled animal into a human, I'm not sure I buy. But who cares? No one will ever be able to "prove" one origin theory or the other. Let's just keep them both in the marketplace of ideas and stop fighting over shit that has no value in day-to-day life. If a kid believes God made the universe, he/she is not precluded from becoming a research scientist. Likewise, if someone believes we descended from (insert critter here), there's no reason they can't also believe in God.

Americans bitch and fight over EVERYthing.
