That was Molly, the book was Neuromancer. If I remember correctly, her tear ducts were routed back into her mouth, so instead of crying, she spit.

Dead on. Awesome book. If i remember correctly they also acted as a display. While the downsides of this are...noticeable (wouldn't contacts be a touch easier matey?) if you could have it also act as a display.....awesome....ok I need to go de-geek.

Wearing them whie asleep seems a tad too far though, I'd be terrified of rolling over and waking up screaming in a pool of blood or something. I get the feeling he sleeps alone somehow.
