That's why if I were home passing out candy I would have been armed. We have a similar problem. I have what I call the "five foot rule." Once the "kids" top 5', it's time to lock up and call it a night and start eating the leftovers.

My frail, elderly mother was under orders that she was under no circumstances to open the door, even if there were childish sounding knocks.
