10/7/2004: "Walking to the Sky" sculpture

"Walking to the Sky," a sculpture by Jonathan Borofsky, rises from New York's Rockefeller Center. Inspired by a story Borofsky's father used to tell him as a child about a friendly giant who lived in the sky, the sculpture will be on display until Oct. 18.

I like it. It stops kind of abruptly though... like the people run out of pole and fall instead of reaching the sky.

Nah, see, the pole actually extends for another 300 feet. There's an unseen dimensional warp point right at the end of the pole. They haven't invented the cereal-box xray glasses powerful enough to see it yet.

This puts a whole new light, on the term 'climbing the corporate ladder' ..

To make it something that people could relate to more, the artist should've had the walkers, stepping on people heads as they climbed ..

Actually, I kind of like that. It reminds me of one's spiritual walk. The "path" is narrow and straight, and if you fall, it's a LONG way down... so one must keep "looking up" toward the goal. In addition, there aren't alot of people on the pole, indicating that this is the path less travelled.

Definitely a keeper, this one.

Depending on your persective. From the angle of the shot, it appears to me to go on forever in to the distance.

The artist should have tapered the pole to a point to make it appear to go off into infinity. The artist also should have put incrementally smaller figures placed closer together on the pole to acheive the same effect.
