I think it's from something British too. Or something that aired in the UK. For kids. Maybe Scooby Doo echoing those matinees? It was a catchphrase for beest and I too when the kids were little

I think it comes from a TV Western and was uttered by a cavalry sergeant to his officer just before a couple of hundred very warlike indians appeared on the skyline.

I'm sure it was also said by Sergeant Wilson, a man who always gave the impression he'd rather be somewhere else, in Dad's Army.
