Only once was I not paid while on active duty because of a shutdown. I didn't get a midmonth paycheck. It came through retroactively at the end of the month.

Legislation is required to be passed, each time there's a lengthy shutdown, for military personnel to get paid during the shutdown. If that doesn't happen, then legislation has to be passed, each time, for military personnel to get retroactive pay for that period after the shutdown is over.
