Crows and ravens are very closely related and they look very much alike to the untrained observer. Some say they're the same bird, just different in size along a continuum with ravens being larger and crows being smaller. Both are completely black, feathers, beak, feet, eyes, everything. There are some subtle physical distinctions though. Ravens have a kind of messy ruff of feathers around their throat. The ravens being larger also have larger wings with fifteen pinion feathers while the crows' smaller wings only have fourteen. These are practically invisible on the all black birds.
As far as I'm concerned, the difference is a matter of a pinion.
