This year I made my fruitcake with bourbon and tia maria because I didn't have any rum in the house. There was some of the cake batter left over so I made 'muffins' out of it. It hasn't lost anything because of the bourbon. It's very good.

I can't believe no one else on this site makes their own christmas lollies. What about french jellies or...or...anything???... This year I'm going to try something new. I'm going to get some lychees and take the seeds out, then I'm going to fill the cavity with crystalised ginger and then coat them in chocolate. I have a feeling this has probably been done before, but not by me!

Let's see... Christmas Lollies. nope. don't even know what that is. Won't be making it. French Jellies. Uhh... Don't know what that is either. won't be making it. lychees. wtf? never heard of that either. You don't mean leeches, do you? Won't be making that. crystalised ginger is something that I can sort of picture. Is that slices of ginger root soaked in sugar water or something similar and coated with sugar? I can at least picture that. It even sounds familiar, like maybe I had it before. But won't be making it. Chocolate. Now we're talking. Might make some fudge this year. We mostly make various cookies. We also make a kind of curried nut dish, which is outstanding. |

Lychees are wonderful. I love em. When I was a kid, you could only get tinned lychees in certain foreign delis. Nowadays you can get fresh lychees from the supermarket at certain times of the year. With air miles to food ratios, that may be a bad thing.....but they are very tasty:P

I had Lychee's and Rambutan when in Sumatra and Thailand. Good stuff.

I get lychees from the market - didn't stop to think about the carbon count I only really like finger fruit (I even slice apples rather than bite into them) so lychees are great for me. I can eat figs & lychees until they give me problems, if you get what I mean! I don't like melon, but I'll be back on it for lunch in the new year - cubed of course. Anything with a lot of water in fills me up, and at least with melon I'm not tempted to eat too much of it. Christmas Lollipops? Nope, an Aussie thing maybe? Although I love the idea of a fruitcake laced with Tia Maria & Bourbon. Or is that just a description of myself?

OK...here's a pic of the cake! I just finished it this morning. I'm very proud of my efforts here. We did the rumballs last night. They're very delicious.
