A different take on oil profits...

Inherit the Windfall
The defense of oil profits we'll probably never see
Shikha Dalmia

When surging oil profits prompted both conservative and liberal members of Congress to summon oil company executives to Capitol Hill for a hearing earlier today, a public relations rookie crafted the statement below for the oil chiefs to deliver to their interrogators. Cooler heads prevailed, however, and the statement was discarded in a gilded trash bin. An underpaid Reason intern moonlighting as a janitor salvaged it for publication. Here it is:

Good read. Also some good oilfield topics at the oil drum. Since oil in one way or other made my living for years, I still read articles about the oil field. bb

I still find it funny that they want to sell me oil from my land (ANWAR is owned by every US citizen). I'm almost tempted to let them drill there, if they will post a 100 billion dollar bond guaranteeing that they would put it back the way they found it when the oil runs out.

After 50 years of toxic waste sites and brown fields, noone believes that corporations can operate with low environmental impact. Certainly noone expects this adminstration to enforce any such agreement.

Having been to the North Slope, I'd say if they walked away from that one with out doing a thing, it would have no real impact on the area. The footprint of the oil operations there is tiny plus they haven't sullied far and wide either.

Well it might not be as bad if the government could get a fair price, but looking at how other government lease operations are run it always seems to be the insiders paying an artificially low price.

In ANWAR's case, the highest bid would be rejected 'for national security' or due to 'inability to effectively develop resources' in favor of the largest campaign donors.
