We got a real good day of melt yesterday, but it was back to colder today. It is now 13 degrees, and everything is frozen solid. Lots of patches of glare ice from the refrozen meltwater.

I'm still trying to buy a load of wood. I have a feeling it is going to be a lot more expensive than it was at this time last week. Sigh.

We saw the storms on the telly here.

They never cease to amaze me. A big part of that is probably because I've never actually seen snow. Maybe I'd best do that some time.

Glad all the cellar dwellars are doing ok. Hope it continues to be so.

Don't you all keep UHT milk in the cupboard for this very reason?

I know I do!

UHT milk

Is that that milk stuff so full of presertives that it CAN'T go bad ???

When I was over that way in the mid 80's , they got some for the ship , I got a carton and stuck it in a small broom closet with a leaking steam pipe for a month , we chilled it and it tasted FINE ( well as fine as that stuff can taste )

UHT is Ultra Heated (don't know what the T stands for and can't be bothered looking it up) Anyway, they heat it up and then seal it in airtight Tetra packs (maybe that's what the T stands for). It keeps for about 2 yrs or so.

We usually do have a couple of litres in the cupboard for emergencies - usually associated with late night milk deprivation, not snow.
