American Hip Hop

American hip hop is light years ahead of other attempts at the genre.
This might not strike interest in some (or most) of the (old) Cellar-folk here (I'm a college youth, bizatch!) but I just wanted to speak my mind. Right now I'm listening to this sick-ass song "Make It Rain (Remix)" by Fat Joe f/T.I., Lil' Wayne, Rick Ross, Ace Mack and R. Kelly. It has one of the sickest hip hop beats I've heard, and definately the best hip hop beat in the short year of 2007 so far.

I know some Britons will argue British hip hop is superior but NOPE! You guys are wrong, and that's not just my Ameri-centric attitude, but if you guys knew the hip hop legends and the kids we've produced in the states and heard some of the actual MUSIC and beats and the edgy progressions that make hip hop so easy to recognize and the enormous variety of sounds and instruments implemented; you'd all know what I'm talkin about. I've also heard Korean attempts at rapping, now I dunno what they are saying, but the music and the beats are VASTLY inferior to anything made Stateside. I mean, they are just plain garbage in the tough genre of hip hop.

Download it, Make it Rain (Remix) and then go ahead and bash on me but whatever, I know my hip hop.

I make it rain, I make it rain on them hoes. :blunt:

I dont doubt that american hip-hop is better than anyone else's, but... thats like saying stepping in dog shit is better than stepping in horse shit.

It's important to know that the finest beat ever recorded is the Roots' "Without A Doubt" which uses Schoolly D's "Saturday Night" as a basis.

I knew the hate would come. I don't get it sometimes, I don't like heavy metal rock but I never let my friends who do know that I don't like it; and I would never fathom saying "it's horrible, its dog shit" but they always tell me "rap sucks its not music" when clearly that's the most ignorant comment anyone could say.

cowhead 01-30-2007 12:19 PM

nope.. there are many many more ignorant comments one could make..

it's all a matter of taste, I find most hip-hop and rap to be mindless hedonistic un-appealing crap.. but then again I so is most music. but.. I don't think I'd go to the trouble of telling someone it's crap.. unless they are ramming it down my ear cannals demanding that it's the most valid and important style of music. which in my opinion for the most part it's just like being in a bad cover band.

and
ps. i'd rather step in horseshit.. herbivores leave much cleaner (as far as these things go) piles.

I like underground rap, I am very far from a fan of mainstream rap. Immortal Technique anyone?

I like underground because they rap about politics and issues instead of how much they party or how many chains they have. Immortal Technique anyone?

I like hip-hop from all nations. I have an excellent selection from around the world.
US hip-hop has turned to shit in the last ten years IMO.
I could give a fuck about your money, your gat or your hoes.

Then you should listen to Talib Kweli, Common, KRS-One, Mos Def, Kanye West, K-Os, Ludacris (wait wait, listen to his song Runaway Love then stfu), Nas, B.I.G. and Tupac (they were alive in 97 which is included in this 10 year span that seems to you like "shit"), Outlandish, Eminem (when he's serious he's an amazing rapper), Roscoe P Coldchain, Slum Village, Anthony Hamilton, Black Eyed Peas, Dr. Dre (Chronic 2001) and The Game. Those are all examples of good ass social rap about change in society and not mainstream 50 cent which might include drinking, partying, sex, rims, ice, and thugging. But in a way you have to respect 50 because what he raps about he did go through, like when he talks about his life on the street you can't get more real than that.

I normally don't listen to rap or hip hop--in fact, most of it I typically detest--but there have been some songs and artists that have really caught my attention.

I like most of Eminem's stuff, especially when he collaborates with Dre. That Dre CD almost made me want to listen to the genre more often but I heard enough of it when I played basketball in high school. :D Those Jay-Z mashes with Linkin Park were decent, especially the one with Numb.

I don't really have anything to add to the original post, but if you like hip hop satire, the Ali G show is awesome. That character is superior to Borat in just about every way.

Of course it is not the same person. The point was that who do you think is idolized more often these days? Don't get me wrong I enjoy Eminem (and not because he's white).

Because white people's image in heavy metal is more respectable? That deranged music...just supposed to pump you up, right?

Everyone has been exploiting women since the the age of time, this foolish image you posted means nothing toward "hedonistic black culture" because honestly we all objectify women, and we all WILL CONTINUE to do it, not because it's right but because it's BUSINESS.

I knew the hate would come.... People should give the music you like a chance, but also accept you telling them to shut the fuck up, heavy metal is deranged and all men objectify women - hey, it's okay, it's business.

Meh - it's not a genre I'm interested in so I'll stfu and go & be objectified somewhere else.
