Big Fat Loser
MY school is having a "Biggest loser" competition amongst the staff and fatculty. You pay 9 bucks (a buck a week for the length of contest) and at the end of each week there is a weigh in and who ever wins that week gets the pot for that week, at the end of the 9 weeks the overall winner gets another week's pot.
I decided to enter since I need to get back to dating weight and I really only succeed at shit like this when there is some form of competition. It brings out my competitive side. I won last week's round (the first) with a 2.33% loss (5 pounds) The other reason I like the contest is that I can call it, variously, The Big Fat Loser contest or the Total Loser contest and so on. Especially because my cow orkers keep thinking that I don't know what the show is called and they keep correcting me. Then I come up with another corruption like What a Loser, as though I really am that dense. (I'm not dense, I'm big boned!) If I can lose another 5 pounds this week that would be rad. if I keep going I might be able to pull off a 40# loss in 9 weeks and I'd be a svelte 180 (That's 12.8 stone to you paleolithic folks) and 144 bucks richer. We'll see if I'm truly a loser or just a looser.

I'd have a hard time not breaking into a grin or at least a chuckle as I intentionally butchered the name like that.

Continuing at that rate will be tough, I hope you can do it without hitting a plateau. Go foot!

If Karen Carpenter can do it, so can I.

Did you ever see the Karen Carpenter movie that was entirely acted out with Barbie dolls, foot? It seems like the kind of art film you would have been exposed to at some point.

Oh yes! Superstar.
It was brilliant. Todd Haynes made it but failed to secure the rights to the music first and Karen's brother blocked the film after he saw it. I think the only time it can legally be shown is in classes where they are studying Haynes' work. My awesome sister scored a bootleg VHS of the film for me.

I didn't know that. I did indeed see it as part of a class in college.

The thing I found amazing about the film was that after about fifteen minutes I forgot I was watching barbie dolls.

skipping anything processed or refined, e.g. no bread, pasta, corn chips, no sugar or sweet stuff.
I eat tons of fruit and vegetables, raw and cooked. I also eat meat, fish, chicken, eggs, cheese, bacon, coffee, and I try to limit myself to one or two beers a night. Last week, not as successful with the beer limitations. I also serve myself less than I usually would, so instead of three spoons of something, I'll take two. And I don't have seconds. I am basically following a normal diet, just leaving out the crap stuff. I like the book "In Defense of Food"

You lost 5 lbs. that way? Wow. And you even drank beer. Do you do any forms of exercise? If all you're doing is portion control and deleting certain bad food, you will definitely plateau. Maybe then you can add a form of exercise.

You don't think 12 oz wrist curls are exercise?
I know, I am going to start doing some weight lifting and hiking/walking. The shoulder will limit activity for a while. I'd be cool with plateauing at 20# loss. I'll keep you posted.
