Visiting my son in Idaho

My son called me and asked if I could fly up for a visit. They live in northern Idaho not far from the Canadian border. I flew into Spokane and drove up. My son has suffered from depression since his time in the service, it was quite bad recently which is why he asked if I would come.

He and his wife have 4 kids and a new baby girl coming in September. The kids are 8, twins are 4 and their youngest is 2. They have chickens and a dog and a cat. They are very remote, the kids are home schooled.

It was a fun trip. My son is doing better now.

Their cat is very laid back. She appeared at their doorstep just before Christmas 2 years ago, it was freezing outside with snow. They think she was abandoned by someone so they took her in. She keeps an eye on the kids.

The dog is a German Shepherd. Nice dog but in need of some training, she is very protective of the family until she gets used to you being around.

The home came with a big Caterpillar front end loader. Comes in handy for clearing their long gravel driveway in the winter when it's covered deep in snow. What kid wouldn't want one in their yard?

The river runs through their property and my son has water rights to draw from it for irrigation. They own 16 acres.

They have 10 chickens and a rooster that crows at about 4 am since the sun comes up early this time of year. They eat a lot of eggs!

The kids all have chores, the oldest has to deal with the chickens and gathering eggs every morning. They help their mom in the kitchen.

Wow. Great photos of a nice looking family. I bet they love it living in their own little slice of Heaven

A couple of your grandchildren are quite hairy.
Beautiful pictures as usual, I guess they're all used to Grandpa having a camera in his hands. Nice country in warm weather, although the insects can be distracting.

I'm sorry your son is another victim of our politicians, but I'm glad he's doing better.

Damn but the mosquitoes were the worst I have seen in years and I live in hot and humid Houston!

My son said they will be gone when the weather dries out a bit but then they get lots of wasps and hornets!

That's the price of living with nature up close and personal.
