Note to noobs - preview posts

Ever lose your entire post, carefully crafted and perfect as a retort or informational reply here?

I dont often nowdays but I just did because I didnt hit the "preview post" button on the bottom of the page here.

As soon as you have something started, it'd be a good idea to preview.

That's happened more times that I can remember over time and I thought that I might just suggest that people do that ( for those with longer posts, I suppose )

Once your brilliant commentary or witty comment is within the preview, it's much less likely that you'll lose the whole thing if you screw up and hit the back button, etc.

It can also show glaringly obvious screwups that you may want to change before you fire that post off.

Just a suggestion.

Anyone back me up on that? How many people have lost good material (in your mind anyway ) due to some screwup and not been able to get it back and didnt want to spend the time to re-do it?

Anyone? Comm-ooooon.

Not forum post (since I'm not in the habit of writing long ones here) but blog posts for me. Meh. I've learned it's probably better to just have your browser on running and not anything else that consumes big chunks of memory or you run the risk of the system hanging. It's probably even better to write said post on Notepad or other equivalent small word processing program.

I doesn't have to be your screwup, either. It could be anything along the net that coughs.
If it's a long post, I usually write it in Word or Notepad then copy it to the reply window.

At one point NotePad was my preference but somwhow the preview seemed better and I cant remember why.

Maybe after I deleted or closed a NotePad document with an hour's worth of comment before inserting it.

Preview can also help you find spelling typos.

This would have been a good thing for the post I put in the "Theocracy" thread under Current Events this morning. I had previously quoted the entire article (which is now just a link) to which I refer in the post. When I hit "submit", the Net Nanny trounced it. I cut out the entire quoted article, leaving what I had written, and then it was okay.

Looks like the Net Nanny doesn't care for controversial subject matter.

slang, your loss of posts can possibly be attributed to your multiple user ids. happens to me and jinx some times. i got into the habit of highlighting and copying to clip board any long posts.....before i hit the submit or preview button. that way, if i get logged out, i can log back in, and repaste and post.

Losing text was something that happend before the other IDs.

It was those first bunch of posts that I had the most problem.

Most people don't have that good of an imagination, thus leading to problems.
